If the Franklin County Engineer’s Office is responsible for a damaged mailbox or vehicle, we will perform an inspection and attempt to repair the damage. Residents must submit a service request to report mailbox damage or vehicle crashes.

The Franklin County Engineer’s Office removes and properly disposes of dead animals found along the public right of way within the county road system. Residents may report dead animals for removal.

The Franklin County Engineer’s Office lists equipment for sale through GovDeals, including but not limited to cars, trucks, construction equipment, portable message boards, and vehicle attachments.

Litter RemovalLitter Removal

The Highway Maintenance Department performs litter control to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our county’s roadways. Litter also affects our waterways; the Franklin County Engineer’s Office encourages residents to keep their properties clean in order to prevent the pollution of our water resources and to allow drainage facilities to function properly.

PermitsPermits

A right-of-way permit is required for any work that occurs within Franklin County right of way, including the construction of a residential driveway apron. Transporting overweight or oversized loads on Franklin County roadways requires a Special Hauling Permit. Please review the Special Hauling Permit manual to become familiar with permit procedures, fees, and safety regulations to help ensure safe and efficient transport.

Road & Bridge MaintenanceROAD & BRIDGE MAINTENANCE

The Franklin County Engineer’s Office ensures the safe and efficient operation of county infrastructure through a robust maintenance program. Services include pavement and berm repair, drain tile installation, roadside mowing, and litter control. We also provide a variety of engineering services and maintain the safety and structural integrity of the county’s bridges and culverts.

The Mobility Department manages the more than 9,000 county owned signs located along Franklin County roadways. They are responsible for installing, repairing, and removing road signage. Residents may report damaged or missing signage.

Snow & Ice RemovalSnow & Ice Removal

During inclement weather, the Franklin County Engineer’s Office “Snow Fighters” work around the clock to enable safe travel on Franklin County maintained roads. Snow Fighter duties include plowing snow, applying de-icing materials, and monitoring pavement conditions.

The Drainage Department oversees the rehabilitation and maintenance of the County’s regional drainage systems and drainage petitions. They also manage the design, construction, and maintenance of watercourses within the public right-of-way and coordinate the County’s stormwater-related environmental compliance.

Surveying & MappingSURVEYING & MAPPING

The Surveying and Mapping Department supports Franklin County’s growth and infrastructure needs by using a network of control points and GPS to get accurate data for construction projects, road centerlines, property lines and local boundaries. The County Engineer keeps property ownership maps current, helping the County Auditor maintain an accurate tax base (Ohio Revised Code Section 5713.09).

Traffic SignalsTraffic Signals & Speed Limits

The Mobility Department manages the design, installation, and operation of all forms of traffic control devices, such as pavement striping, traffic signals, road signage and school zone flashers. They also design and administer traffic studies to determine speed limit reductions and traffic calming treatments.

Tree TrimmingTree Trimming

The Franklin County Engineer’s Office removes trees, tree limbs, and other brush that inhibits the right of way and causes visual obstructions to the roadway . Residents may report trees or tree limbs for removal.
