Types of Permits
The Franklin County Engineer’s Office (FCEO) issues right-of-way, driveway, and special hauling permits in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code. These permits protect the public right-of-way from unauthorized encroachments and safeguard roadways from damage caused by oversized and overweight vehicles.
The FCEO utilizes OneGov, a permit management solution that automates the process, enhancing efficiency for both applicants and the agency. With OneGov, applicants may conveniently submit permit applications online at any time.

Right-of-Way and Driveway Permits
Anyone planning to perform any type of work or place anything within the right-of-way under the jurisdiction of Franklin County must obtain a right-of-way permit. Requesting to install utilities within the right-of-way requires a set of plans and an application. Residents planning to construct a driveway apron must request a driveway permit. There are no fees associated with these permits.
Special Hauling Permits
Anyone planning to transport overweight or oversized loads on Franklin County roadways must request a special hauling permit. The manual explains permit types, procedures, fees, safety regulations, and other items that will help ensure a smooth and productive hauling trip. Please allow a minimum of four business days for processing the application.
