As a local public works agency headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, the Franklin County Engineer's Office is responsible for the maintenance and construction of 271 miles of county roadway and 351 county bridges, as well as upkeep of all county ditches, drains, retention basins, and other storm water facilities within the right-of-way of county roads in unincorporated areas. To meet the continuing development and infrastructure needs of Franklin County, the Engineer's Office utilizes the latest technologies for determining and maintaining roadway centerlines and boundaries; retracing and setting new monuments for original public land surveys; preparing geographic information system mapping for real estate tax assessments; and establishing precise countywide horizontal and vertical control to maintain uniformity in construction, surveying, and mapping.

Scioto Pointe Drive, under Trabue Road, is closed for drilled shaft construction. The closure is expected to last 14 days, weather permitting.

Superintendent

The Building Maintenance Superintendent supervises the building maintenance department in the general maintenance and new construction in all areas of facilities maintenance; estimates costs, plans and orders materials; coordinates with contractors for building maintenance projects at 970 and outposts; approves invoices; monitors work of contractors; maintains files on all projects; orders and receives all necessary supplies and materials.

Performs work to include but not to be limited to rough and finished carpentry; masonry involving block construction, concrete placement, finishing and restoration; plumbing; welding and fabrication; pipe laying; roofing; makes recommendations and performs special projects; utilizes latest construction methods and materials; operates all required hand tools such as wood and concrete saws, sanders, planers, routers, drills, nailers, ramsets, etc. For more information contact Craig Mahaffey, Building Maintenance Superintendent.
